Kelly Renee Wright, Certified Rolfer®
Kelly grew up in the Front Range of Northern Colorado. Inspired by her 8th grade biology teacher and the wonders of the class, she thought perhaps she’d be a Doctor (Pediatric Heart Surgeon to be exact.). Then in high school while taking Anatomy/Physiology and running for the cross country team, the idea of being a Physical Therapist seemed to fit. In 1997 she moved to Durango, CO with her high school sweetheart and now husband.
Pursuing her degree at Fort Lewis College exposed her to new passions (climbing, boating, mountains that felt like home) and re-directed her course of studies. In 2000, Kelly went through a 10 series of Rolfing®. The experience struck a cord. This was the niche that perfectly meshed her passion for the body with her desire to help people!!! She knew then that she would become a Certified Rolfer™, but first needed to fulfill her desire to teach for Outward Bound.
After Graduating from FLC in 2002 with a BA in Exercise Science; concentration in Education and a minor in Art, she continued to work for the Utah and Colorado Programs of Outward Bound. Her final course, an amazing 81-day Semester of mountain backpacking, running Utah rivers, canyoneering in the desert, climbing in Joshua Tree and Sea Kayaking off the Baja peninsula was a true culmination of her 5 year experience as an outdoor educator. The motto at Outward Bound was to “unleash human potential”, recognizing what was already there and working with groups to cultivate it. She believes that rolfing aspires to the same, but on an individual level.
2006 found her craving roots and community and a return to home; Durango. It then felt right to take steps to becoming a Rolfer™. Through the grace of her job at Gardenswartz Outdoors and her husband, she began training at the Rolf Institute in 2007. After Graduating in December 2008, she is now excited and ready to connect with individuals with this unique modality.
A few years into her career, she cultivated a facet of her practice in adding peri-natal work to her traditional offering of 10-series, post 10 work and custom crafted session. Although this is not the main focus of her practice it is an area that truly resonates with her as a way to serve and give back to other mommas! Ultimately she is awed everyday she works with those who entrust her in their healing process.
Ida Rolf
Rolfing was developed by Ida Rolf, a biochemist and physiologist whose work revolutionized the use of the words "core" and "sleeve" to describe the relationship of the body to reality and gravity.
Muscles and body segments are differentiated and then re-integrated in relationship to each other in a way that evokes a sense of core and allows movement to flow through it in the most efficient, harmonious, and stress-free manner possible.
Much like a sculptor works with clay, a Rolfer works with the connective tissue of the body to create a body that is more balanced, symmetrical and erect, has more graceful movement and functions more efficiently.
